Saltwood’s owner and fish monger extraordinaire, Jim Woodside, has a lifetime of experience in and a deep-seated passion for the preservation of the harvest, be it fruits and vegetables or meat and fish. He started smoking trout he caught in the lakes and creeks of North Central Washington as a child . In the late 1980’s, he moved into the Alaska fish industry based out of Seward, where he worked his way up from the canneries. He spent seven years as a commercial fisherman in the rugged, pristine waters of the Gulf of Alaska, giving him access to the finest sustainable seafood Alaska has to offer.

Now, after over 20 years of perfecting his recipes and techniques, Mr. Woodside has opened Saltwood Smokehouse. What truly sets this smokehouse apart from others is his dedication to quality, innovation, and health consciousness.
